John Young deluxe Bowie

John Young is one of the top makers of Loveless style fixed blades and is creative in developing some unique offerings of his own.  Here is a Deluxe Bowie he built for me several years ago. Enjoy.

Loveless Knives

Bob Loveless was/is perhaps the most famous and influential of all custom knifemakers.  Frankly, I don't want to take the time to support that statement here but perhaps, if you are interested and not already familiar with Bob Loveless and his history you might enjoy this website www.boblovelessknives.com and learn more about the man.  I wanted to take the opportunity to share pictures of some of my favorite Loveless knives.  So;

Nessmuk

Stiff Horn

Utility Horn (very rare, 4 or 5 made)

Drop Point (the most famous Loveless design)

I tend to favor the stag handles and some of the smaller models even though the larger double edge blade models are typically the most sought after and valuable of the Loveless patterns.

Brian Chovanec Persian Fighter

I have been watching Brian Chovanec on FaceBook for some time now, the knives he makes have been very interesting.  I decided to get one.  Presenting the Persian Fighter by Brian Chovanec.  This amazing work of art features a hollow ground, mirror polished blade, bronze fittings, warthog spacers, carved Turkish walnut handle, copper pins and Amethysts set in some of the pins.  The snakes have stainless steel tongues and copper eyes (the guard and pommel are not cast, they are actually carved from one solid piece of brass).  Brian lives in Slovakia and is an Australian expat.  This knife is 100% handmade (handheld tools only), an original one of a kind with no repeats.  Pretty cool so I thought to share.

Brian Tighe a creative and well respected maker.

I have known Brian for many years.  His knives are always much sought after, especially the more hard to find upscale pieces.  Her are some I recently acquired.  Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Moroccan Koummya

Here is a beautiful ornamental piece I picked up from a collector some years ago, it is a Koummya. Researching this piece I have found the following information; The koummya is the characteristic traditional dagger of the Berber and Arabic peoples of Morocco, it is  variant of the Arabic jambiya.  Distinguishing features are the contoured handles, curved double-edged blade and exaggeratedly upturned scabbard tip. In the context of the traditional regional manner of dress, the koummya is worn visibly at the left side, generally about at the level of the waist and is suspended vertically, with the scabbard tip forward, by a long woolen baldric, attached at either end to one of the two scabbard rings.  I have had it on display in my study.  I was told it was authentic and that the gold fittings have been tested and are indeed real gold.  I am no expert on this type of knife, however, I like the looks of it and it is a great item for display. Enjoy.

Sergio Consoli/Simone Frezzardi work of art

I have enjoyed viewing and handling Sergio Consoli's  knives for some time now but never took the plunge to purchase one.  Appears he teamed up with one of my favorite engravers, Simone Frezzardi, and came up with something I could not refuse.  Love the knife and engraving combination.  The one image is of Uma Thurman but all others are made up by Simone and are in the spirt of the knife.  I call this knife "Kill Bill" as from the movie though it is not officially named that by the maker/engraver.  I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do.

Don Polzien Tanto

I have always been fond of oriental style knives, especially Japanese Tanto's.  I use to have a really nice from from Don Polzien and let it go.  I have now acquired another.  Here are some pictures.

Don doesn't make a lot of these, he mostly works at repair and restoration of older originals.  I think he actually wants to keep those he makes vs. selling them!
